About SoilFER Learn

SoilFER Learn is the online training platform of the SoilFER programme (Soil Mapping for Resilient Agrifood Systems), implemented by FAO through the Global Soil Partnership. It delivers Activity 1.8 of the SoilFER project and the corresponding capacity-development activity of the SoilFER-VACS project: an open-source online platform for data manipulation, soil mapping and modelling, used for national, sub-regional and regional trainings.

Who it is for

National soil experts, laboratory staff and data managers in the SoilFER beneficiary countries — including Guatemala, Honduras, Ghana, Kenya, Zambia, Mozambique and Tunisia — and participants of regional trainings (e.g. SICA countries). The platform is designed to be reused for other trainings beyond the programme.

What makes it different

  • Browser-based lab: R, RStudio, JupyterLab and Google Earth Engine clients run on the server, so trainees do not need powerful computers.
  • Open source: all course material and platform code are openly available.
  • Standardised methods: content follows the methodologies developed by the Global Soil Partnership.

Languages

English first; Spanish, French and Portuguese versions are planned.
