Learn soil data science by doing it
Online training of the SoilFER programme in digital soil mapping, soil data management and soil information systems. Each course combines guided material with a ready-to-use R / RStudio / Google Earth Engine lab that runs in your browser — no software installation and no powerful laptop needed.
How it works
1 · Read
Follow the course pages: concepts, methods and annotated R code based on the standardised methodologies of the Global Soil Partnership.
2 · Practise
Open the Lab: your own RStudio session on the SoilFER server, with all packages and course data pre-loaded.
3 · Apply
Run the workflow on your own national soil data and produce soil property and nutrient maps with uncertainty.
Course tracks
Digital Soil Mapping
From soil data preparation to machine-learning maps of soil properties and nutrients, with uncertainty and validation.
Soil Information Systems
National soil information systems, data standards and laboratory information management (LIMS).
Soil Spectroscopy
Spectral libraries and calibration services for predicting soil properties.
