Getting started
Your account and the SoilFER Lab
1. Create your account
2. Open the Lab
Click Open the Lab in the top bar, or the green Open in the SoilFER Lab button on any course page. The Lab starts your personal RStudio in the browser. The first start can take up to a minute.
| What | Where in the Lab |
|---|---|
| Your files (kept between sessions) | ~ (home folder) |
| Course data (read-only, shared) | ~/shared |
| Exercise scripts for a module | ~/<labs-repo>/<module> (pulled automatically by the course button) |
TipPrefer Jupyter?
Replace /rstudio/ with /lab in the address bar to use JupyterLab with R and Python kernels.
3. Google Earth Engine
Some modules use Google Earth Engine (GEE). You need your own GEE account registered for non-commercial use and linked to a Google Cloud project. Register at https://earthengine.google.com before the training, then in RStudio run:
library(rgee)
ee_Initialize(project = "your-cloud-project-id")4. Good practice
- Sessions stop automatically after 1 hour without activity. Your files are kept.
- Save results in your home folder; do not write into
~/shared. - Download maps you want to keep from the RStudio Files pane (More → Export).
